My health had broken down to the point where I could’t continue my university studies and I felt a failure in many ways. Within a short time, Okido Yoga offered me, not only practices and awareness to restore my wellbeing, but a place in a warm, caring and non-dogmatic community.

A natural progression for me was to do the 4-year teacher training course. This was made possible by the financial support of Okido Yoga UK and the encouragement of both Tomoko and the trustees at the time. It was not an easy journey, but every time I faltered, Tomoko would offer compassionate counsel and give me new strength to continue.

And so I stand here today, as both a long time student, and, Okido Yoga teacher.

The philosophy, science and art of yoga continues to fascinate me and I feel very fortunate to be able to deepen my study of Okido Yoga with Tomoko and others. The wealth of knowledge that is available, as you will find in the new book, is vast. For me the cornerstones of Okido Yoga that really enrich my life, are the connection, love, devotion and positivity that I have experienced from the very beginning.

I will always remember how Mori, my first teacher, gently steered me from a place of aloofness and isolation to becoming more participatory and mindful of others. I soon felt the warmth and positive energy of his whole family. Fellow students at classes and retreats, as well as teachers, would generously share their experiences. The trustees, especially Bob and Pat, would also take part, playing their vital role in supporting the Mori family and keeping the charity alive. It gives me great joy to have so many friendships and a sense of belonging through being part of this community. The conviviality, cooperation, trust and care that Okido Yoga fosters is very precious, and I would say, rare.

Some things have changed with time and life events, of course. We are certainly smaller in numbers than we were at the 30th anniversary. However, the spirit and integrity are very much alive thanks to Tomoko and the other trustees’ dedicated work in running the organisation and activities, always forward thinking and with the utmost care and consideration for others.

I will dare to say that I’m speaking for you all present here and also those who couldn’t come in person when I say, “Congratulations” and, “Thank You” for continuing the work of Okido Yoga UK in promoting health, well-being and positive spirit, spreading light at a time when the world really needs it.

I also thank you all for being here and being part of this beautiful community.

Like many people, I encountered Okido Yoga at a time of need.
